A Tip from Coach Sadler

Since I have a background in athletic training, my first tip to improve your golf game will have to do with keeping in shape! I have taught you the proper technique for stretching and lifting weights. We, as coaches, expect you to be eating right and getting your cardiovascular workouts in on a routine basis. Do you remember anything we told you the first week of school? I sure hope so, because when we lift and swim as a team on Fridays at the natatorium, your technique looks good. It’s when I am not with you that I worry! So, here are some good habits to follow before a swim, a round of golf, or a trip to the weight room.

bulletAlways stretch prior to doing ANYTHING!! If you don’t, you will have soreness the next day that could have been prevented. Target the areas you are about to use!!
bulletIf you are about to lift weights, get on a stationary bike for 5 minutes just to warm up. Nothing strenuous, just an easy 5 minutes to get your blood pumping.
bulletWhen you can, lift in front of a mirror to ensure proper posture and technique. It is safer and more motivating that way!
bulletYou should plan on cardiovascular workouts at least 3 times a week. This sounds crazy, but walking 18 holes of golf is harder than you think!
